Service to Humanity and its Reformation in the Light of the Quran and Hadith
Keywords:
Quran and Sunnah, service to humanity, reformation, disorderAbstract
Assisting and helping other human beings is essentially a distinguishing characteristic of an enlightened society. No society can progress without this attribute. Since humans derive their name from "Insaan" (Arabic for human), love and affection are inherent in their nature, which manifests in interactions with others. From the time humans first appeared on this earth, the behavior of mutual interaction began. Societies where mutual cooperation and service are lacking tend to experience disorder. Every society demands reformation, and the concept of service to humanity provides the best foundation for such reformation.
The Quran and Sunnah provide guidance on maintaining a well-structured society, and at their core, they emphasize the concept of service to humanity. They convey that true service to humanity involves helping and assisting others without expecting any reward, compensation, or recognition. Service to humanity entails being committed to aiding the creation of Allah, which includes not only humans but also animals, birds, and all living beings. Treating all of them kindly in accordance with Allah’s will and intention, and showing empathy and goodwill towards them, is considered service to humanity. If this comprehensive concept of service to humanity is implemented in society, it will become an exemplar of the highest human ideals. In any society, the concept of service to humanity acts as a remedy to prevent jealousy, malice, selfishness, robbery, and other social evils.
