Ijtihad, Quran, Sunnah, Contemporary issues, Council of Islamic IdeologyAbstract
The Muslim world today is facing numerous complex issues, including political instability, economic distress, social injustice, and moral decay, which require diligence to address effectively. Etihad, the process of deriving rulings from the Quran and Sunnah, is essential for tackling these challenges. It not only guides scholars in addressing contemporary issues but also enables them to present the teachings of Islam in the context of the modern world. There are two contrasting views within the Muslim community regarding the contemporary relevance of Ijtihad. One group advocates for facilitating Ijtihad to present solutions to present-day issues according to contemporary demands, asserting that Ijtihad is the right of every Muslim. On the other hand, some argue that Ijtihad should be limited to qualified scholars, and ordinary Muslims should follow their guidance.
It cannot be denied that:
- Ijtihad is a necessary process that needs to be promoted in the Muslim world.
- Through Ijtihad, solutions to political instability, economic distress, social injustice, and moral decay in the Muslim world can be found.
- Ijtihad can serve as a means of unity and consensus in the Muslim world.
- Ijtihad can be beneficial in eliminating sectarianism, dissemination, and discord.
- The Ijtihad of scholars can help Muslims face new challenges.
- Numerous institutions in Pakistan, including the Council of Islamic Ideology, Ittehad-e-Tanzeemat-Madaris Pakistan, Shari’ah academy and Dawah Academy of International Islamic University Islamabad, are capable of contributing significantly to this endeavor.
